When we talk about Delaware Valley, we are talking football. The team is now undefeated in conference play at 3-0, and 3-3 overall. Those three losses were early season games against state powers, a good test for the start of the season.

Saturday at the homecoming event, Delaware Valley’s football team played against North Pocono, who tried their best to spoil the day. They showed up psyched up and highly motivated. Their warm-ups were impressive and the actions were disciplined. Their band was also really impressive. However, once the game got started, Delaware Valley asserted themselves and North Pocono was just over matched.

When the Delaware Valley team came out on the field, they looked like a team possessed. Onlookers could tell that there was going to be some serious action.

Delaware Valley’s only problem all day was kicking extra points. They usually are sure shots with this, but not today. It didn’t matter because Delaware Valley was running wild. Their run game was powerful, as usual, and almost unstoppable all day.

There were some nice pass plays that resulted in touchdowns but the run game was king.

In the first quarter Delaware Valley was up 9-0. Ryder Machado, who is usually the run workhorse, saw limited play time, but the rest of the team really filled the gap. Justin Kalitsnik was running extremely well, but so were the other players that were given the ball and told to run with it, including Mike Luzzolino and Jayden Ramirez.

At half time Delaware Valley was up 22-0. The run game was in full swing in the third quarter and Delaware Valley went up 36-0.

In the fourth quarter the run was still the usual master mauling machine that they are. Delaware Valley rang up a score of 42-0 against a quality North Pocono team that had spoiler on their minds, but the team was just too much for North Pocono to overcome that night.

It should be noted that Delaware Valley has been known to crisper playing, but for some reason the passing and receiving suffered. Still, they came through when it was needed. The team’s defense was outstanding as usual. They had their sacks, fumble recoveries, and total stoppages. Between the run game and the defense, this was pure Delaware Valley football.

The game was won on shear will power and physical power. It carried the day but some hard games may lie ahead. Wilkes Barre, Scranton, and Abington Heights are waiting in the wings. The only home game left will be Scranton on the 20th.
