Local athletes excel in college sports

Let’s check up on some former Delaware Valley High School student-athletes who competed with excellence in collegiate sports this past season.
CJ Anderson
CJ Anderson was a freshman hurdler for the Lock Haven University (Pa.) men’s track and field program. He placed second in the 110 hurdles and third in the 400 hurdles at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships held in Mansfield. He was also a part of the Lock Haven 4-by-200 relay team that set a school record. He competed in the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships hosted by Texas A&M Kingsville in the 400 hurdles (19th place).
Anderson was named the PSAC Freshman of the Year. Lock Haven's Bald Eagles placed fifth at the PSAC Championships.
He is majoring in business administration.
Stefanie O’Grady
Stefanie O’Grady was a sophomore infielder for the Lock Haven University softball team this year. She played in 35 games and started in 14 of them for Lock Haven. She had six hits, including a double, and an RBI with 11 runs scored.
The Lock Haven Bald Eagles posted an overall record of 32-19-1 with a mark of 10-4 at home. They went 13-6-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Lock Haven won the PSAC Championships held at Veterans Park in Quakertown. From there, they advanced to the NCAA Atlantic 1 Regional at West Liberty University (West Virginia), where they finished with a record of 1-2.
O'Grady is a health and physical education major.
Devin Paulison
Devin Paulison was a junior member of the West Chester University (Pa.) men’s tennis program this year. He earned a victory in doubles competition for West Chester.
The Golden Rams competed in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.
James Peters
Sophomore James Peters played for the Keystone College (La Plume, Pa.) men’s lacrosse squad in 2019. A defender, Peters played in 11 games and started in two of them for Keystone. He picked up five ground balls and caused four turnovers.
The Keystone Giants competed in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
Peters is a criminal justice major.
Emily Covert
Emily Covert was on the roster as a freshman midfielder for the Arcadia University (Glenside, Pa.) women’s lacrosse team this year. She started in all 15 games and had four goals and an assist for Arcadia.
The Knights had one victory, a Middle Atlantic Conference triumph on their home field.
Covert is a biology/pre-physician assistant major at Arcadia.
Mark Piotrowski
Mark Piotrowski was a freshman middle hitter for the Wilkes University (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) men’s volleyball team this year. He started in 18 matches and played in 61 sets for Wilkes. He had 172.5 points on the season.
The Wilkes Unversity Colonels had 10 overall victories, with four wins on their home court and four wins in the Middle Atlantic Conference.
Piotrowski is majoring in environmental sciences.
Zach Nekich
Zach Nekich was a freshman distance runner for the East Stroudsburg University (Pa.) men’s track and field team. He had his team’s second-best time all season in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
The ESU Warriors placed third in the team scoring at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships held in Mansfield.
