— Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is inviting the public to join a Bike Your Park Day ride on Saturday, Sept. 29.
This is a worldwide event that encourages people to explore parks and public lands by bicycle on the same day. In the past two years, more than 20,000 people in all 50 states and 10 countries participated. Adventure Cycling Association, a nonprofit bicycling organization, coordinates the event.
The park will close Old Mine Road in New Jersey between Van Campen Inn and the intersection with Route 615 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to allow cyclists to ride seven miles in each direction over both gravel and asphalt sections of the historic road without sharing the road with cars. Parking is available at the Van Campen Inn, on the dirt section of Old Mine Road.
To participate, register for free at Bike Your Park Day Old Mine Road at https://bit.ly/2POHGby. Everyone who registers by Sept. 23 will receive a Bike Your Park Day sticker and will be entered in a sweepstakes for a chance to win a Co-Motion Cycles Divide bike and an Amtrak trip for two people, and their bikes, to Glacier National Park.
