By the numbers

Across the Pocono Mountains, the Red Cross:
Responded to about 60 emergencies in the past year
Provided assistance to nearly 250 people
Installed about 700 free smoke alarms in the past year
Trained more than 8,000 people in lifesaving skills like CPR and First Aid
Collected nearly 4,000 blood donations in the past year

— The Run for the Red Pocono Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5K Road Race will be held Sunday, May 21.

The event, in its 12th year, will raise money for American Red Cross Disaster Relief in the Pocono Mountains.

Both the full and half marathons start at 7 a.m. at Pocono Mountain West High School in Pocono Summit. The 5K road race steps off at 8 a.m. at Stroudsburg High School. The full marathon and 5K finish in the Stroudsburg High School stadium while the half marathon finishes at the Crescent Lodge in Paradise Valley.

The Run for the Red Pocono Marathon serves as a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon in 2018. A total of $8,000 in prize money is awarded for the top three male and female finishers of the Pocono Marathon this year. Registration for the marathon and half marathon continues through May 11 at poconomarathon.org. Registration for the 5K remains open until race day.

Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono is once again a supporter of the Run for Red Pocono Marathon. BRC 13 will televise the finish of the marathon from the high school on Sunday.

Cost of registration is $25. All proceeds benefit the American Red Cross. Participants can register at poconomarathon.org.
