Surrounded by family, Alice Dorothy Scaturro, died in her residence at United Methodist Communities at Bristol Glen on February 23, 2024.

Alice was born on March 21, 1928, in Brooklyn, NY, the eldest daughter of Dorothy and Christian Hansen. She was married to the late Joseph A Scaturro October 3, 1948. Together they had three children.

One of Alice’s proudest achievements was that while raising a family she was able to complete her education and graduate from New York University with a degree in elementary education. Thereafter, Alice held several teaching positions in the Lutheran school system in Glendale, New York.

In the mid 1970s, Alice and her husband, Joe, started a new life in Milford, Pennsylvania. They quickly became deeply involved in their new community. Alice taught at Montague Elementary School for several years and later she served as director of volunteers at the Hillcrest and Andover Rehabilitation Centers.

Alice will be remembered for her steadfast faith and her dedication to her church. She was an active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Brooklyn and after moving to Pennsylvania in 1974, she joined Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Dingmans Ferry. She sang in the choir, served on the Altar Guild, and brought communion to the homebound. She attended and at times led the women’s Bible study.

She will be remembered for her cheerful, sweet, and grateful disposition. She was grateful for the love of her family. She was grateful for the care she received at Bristol Glen, the assisted living residence where she has lived since 2017. She took each day in stride saying, “Let’s make it a good day.” No matter the weather or time of year, she always commented, “Spring will be here soon.”

Mostly, Alice will be remembered for her dedication to her family. She taught us, her children, her nieces, and her nephews the joys and responsibilities of family. She filled our lives with song and the traditions of family meals and holidays. She was our advocate and advisor, always helping us through the many challenges of our lives. She guided us by example and with love.

Alice is predeceased by her eldest son, Joseph Anthony Scaturro Jr. Left to cherish her memory are her children Barbara and Richard, and daughter-in-law April, as well as her nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Memorial service: April 20 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Dingmans Ferry, Pa., with the Rev. Niels Nielsen officiating. Burial in Delaware Cemetery, Dingmans Ferry, Pa., and a reception at the church will follow. All those who knew and loved Alice are welcome to join.

Remembrances may be sent to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 103 Delaware Crest, Dingmans Ferry, PA 18328.
