Hudson Valley Honor Flight whisked 86 veterans to Washington, D.C.

STEWART AIRPORT — Hudson Valley Honor Flight’s “Mission 18” took 86 area veterans to Washington, D.C., on Saturday, Nov. 4.
The flight departed Stewart International Airport in Newburgh taking veterans on an all-expense paid trip to visit the nation’s war memorials on the daylong trip. It return 8:30 p.m. that evening.
On board this 18th Honor Flight were 10 World War II veterans, 74 Korean War veterans and two Vietnam veterans. Each was accompanied by a volunteer personal “guardian” responsible for ensuring that the veteran’s trip is a memorable one.
This is Hudson Valley Honor Flight’s final flight of 2017.
“ShopRite Supermarkets was there for our first flight and six years later they are still our major sponsor,” said Executive Director Jennifer DeFrancesco. “We are so grateful for the generosity and support we receive from ShopRite, which allows us to continue to honor our communities’ veterans.”
Board Chairman Frank Kimler said, “It’s an honor for us, and those who support Hudson Valley Honor Flight, to give veterans this gift of seeing the war memorials that honor their service. Please come out to either send them off or welcome them back from this wonderful trip. It’s an experience you will not forget.”
Hudson Valley Honor Flight (HVHF) is a local nonprofit based in Walden which honors veterans in the Hudson Valley and Pike County, Pa., for all their sacrifices by bringing them to Washington, D.C. to visit their respective war memorials at no cost to them.
