Workshop: Protect your drinking water

| 16 Aug 2017 | 01:09

MILFORD — Where does your drinking water come from? Groundwater!
Pike County almost entirely depends on groundwater for its drinking water. Except for bottled water, all water consumed at home, in school, and at work originates as groundwater from private and municipal wells and springs. This groundwater can become polluted with harmful substances like road salt, cleaning supplies, home heating oil, medicines, weed killers, fertilizers and more.
The Pike County Conservation District, with the Pike County-Penn State Extension and the Pocono Source Water Protection Collaborative, will host three free workshops on the importance of maintaining good drinking water quality.
The first 10 registered participants per workshop will get a free water test kit for coliform bacteria, nitrates, pH and Total Dissolved Solids. The test results will be forwarded to homeowners along with any potential steps needed to improve drinking water in their home.
The workshops will be held at 7 p.m. on the following dates and locations:
Wednesday, Aug. 23, Lackawaxen Township Building, 116 Urban Road
Wednesday, Oct. 18, Dingman Township Building, 118 Fisher Lane
Monday, March 26, 2018, Pike County Conservation District Office, 556 Route 402, Hawley
