Delaware Valley girls' soccer captains are winners on and off the field

MILFORD — There is no secret formula as to why teams such as the Delaware Valley High School girls' soccer program continue to be successful on the field.
It really comes down to a collective commitment to hard work, the will to succeed, and strong leadership from the coaching staff and leaders on the roster.
In the case of the Warriors, those leaders happen to also be the team captains.
“We have three captains this year, they are all seniors,” Delaware Valley head coach Jeff Rainear said. “Lexi Sickler is a two year captain. Miriam Denhalter and Brittany Brockmann joined her this year as co-captains.”
All three seniors have demonstrated their considerable value in their very important roles.
“Lexi has always been a team leader on and off the soccer field,” Rainear said. “Miriam and Brittany earned the captaincy this year with their off-season workouts and positive influence during the preseason. Lexi leads the team in scoring with 10 goals and four assists, Miriam has three goals and helps control our midfield, and Brittany anchors our defense at the stopper position. All three of the girls have grown in their leadership, especially with helping the underclassmen transition to the varsity field and assimilate into the team.”
Lexi, Miriam, and Brittany are not only proven winners on the pitch, but more importantly in their studies as well.
“The girls are also dedicated students in the classroom,” Rainear said. “Lexi and Miriam are taking multiple AP classes. Miriam is in the school orchestra, and Brittany is involved in HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America).”
A number of student-athletes on the Delaware Valley girl’s soccer side are major contributors, as the Warriors have an overall winning record and a winning mark in the very challenging Lackawanna League Division 1.
“Other key players for the team include freshman keeper Brianna Matteson, freshman striker Sydney Bolles, junior sweeper Virginia Yost, junior midfielder Grace Anagnost, and senior defensive wing Erin Woolley,” Rainear said. “Sophomores Hailey Jordan, Emily Thomas, Meghan Brynes, Gabby White and Jenna Reich give the team great versatility with their skills on offense and in the midfield.”
