A Haunting at The Columns

Milford — Pike County Historical Society Secretary of the Board, Roxanne Scott, has finally gotten her wish. For years Roxanne has been itching to do a “haunted house kinda thing” at the Museum, and this year, on Thursday, Oct. 25, they will be doing just that. The doors will open at 7 p.m. for a special look at the people and happenings that have made Pike County the showcase of human drama that it is. Upon entering, you will be welcomed by your tour guide “the Billings Witch” and she will lead you on a journey through Pike County History like you’ve never had before! (Lucky for us there is so much “blood and guts” to depict.) Among our special guests for the evening, coming to us from a time gone bye, will be Madame Peirce, the fortune teller and woman of mystery that married Charles Saunders Peirce, famous mathematician and philosopher. Also, David Irwin, who trekked across the top of the world with only his sled dogs for companions, their fate will certainly provide the museum visitor with a “tasty morsel” of the macabre. The Civil War Room will be the sight of an amputation and “Doc” will not leave out a single gory detail. Herman Paul Schultz, the only man sentenced to death at the gallows of Milford will also be “hanging around” to tell his tale. Lest we forget about the “shocking” truth behind early methods of hair care, the lovely Linda will be on hand to share her beauty secrets in relation to using the Helene Curtis permanent wave machine. Tours are every half hour beginning at 7 p.m. Our very own Gail Monica will also be available for personal Tarot readings. Don’t miss this night of macabre meanderings through our county’s history. Tickets are $10 and can be reserved by calling 570-296-8126.
