MILFORD n Tickets are on sale for the dramatic reading of “Animal Farm” planned for Saturday, Apr. 28, at 7 p.m. at Grey Towers National Historic Site. Based on the satirical allegory of the Russian Revolution and set in a fictional barnyard, the classic fable written by George Orwell has been adapted and is directed by the American Readers Theatre founder Jeffrey Stocker. The production is appropriate for ages 13 and older. Tickets are $25 and include light refreshments. They can be purchased at the Pike County Library (570-296-8211) or by calling 570-296-7704. Proceeds will benefit the new Pike County Library Building Fund. Dramatic readings were a popular form of entertainment in the 19th century. The US Forest Service at Grey Towers is partnering with the Pike County Library and the American Readers Theatre Company to continue this tradition in the Great Hall of the historic 1886 mansion, once home to the Pinchot family. The Pinchots had their own tradition of opening their home to the community, a part of the legacy that the Forest Service is continuing today. The cast includes ART company members: Greg Giblin, Stacy Case, David and Memory Contento, Daniel Banks, Greg Kolvenbach, and new member Martyn Freed who is the president of Friends of the Library. Members of the American Readers Theatre Company have performed a number of readings at Grey Towers, including Halloween readings of “War of the Worlds” and “Dracula” and the popular springtime classic, “Charlotte’s Web.” The dramatic readings are a part of Grey Towers’ Conservation and the Arts program, which also includes music, landscape painting and field journaling.
