Art exhibits celebrate the joys of winter
PORT JERVIS — The Port Jervis Council for the Arts presents “Winter Solstice,” exhibits to be shown around the city from Dec. 14 through Feb. 8, to celebrate the season.
Included in the exhibit are paintings and pastels that "celebrate the visual beauty of winter and those cold wintry days when snow fills the air and icicles glisten in the sun," the council says.
Port Jervis City Hall (mayor's office), 20 Hammond St., displays the paintings of Marlaina Donato, a multimedia artist whose work encompasses painting, photography, music, writing and holistic health. She has shown her work in many solo exhibitions in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and New Jersey. She works in a variety of media including water-based media, traditional oil and pure pigment pastel.
Hours: Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Bon Secours Hospital (first floor cafeteria), 160 East Main St., Port Jervis features winter-themed works by area artists. Demetre Bove says of her oil on canvas paintings: “Making art has always been a part of my life. Creating art is difficult with many fascinating problems to solve. I am still learning and creating.”
Susan Miiller received Orange Arts Grants in 2014 and 2009 for “Deerest Deerpark," an invitational show of the area artist’s decorations of fiberglas deer. She received an M.F.A. degree in 1992 and has been teaching faculty at SUNY since 1999. Her work is included in many important public and private collections.
Hours: Monday through Friday, 8-4 p.m.
Deerpark Town Hall, 420 US-209, Huguenot, shows the wintry works of Joan Kehlenbeck, president of the River Valley Artists Guild. She has shown her oil paintings and pastel drawings regionally and includes important local, historic buildings and scenes in her work. The show also includes River Valley Guild artists.
Hours: Monday through Friday, 9-4 p.m.
