Scranton — Join the Everhart Museum on Sunday, July 13, from 1 to 4 p.m. for Community Day as we celebrate our Pennsylvania landscape. The day’s activities highlight our regional landscape and important environmental issues and serve as a complement to the Museum’s Art of the Land exhibit. Art of the Land: John Willard Raught and the Continuing NEPA Landscape Tradition is the Museum’s second centennial exhibition and showcases the Museum’s collection of work by local Impressionist painter, John Willard Raught, as well as the work of contemporary artists whose work illustrates Raught’s lasting influence. Community Day promises to offer something for everyone. For those who are creative, there will be art projects using recycled materials led by the Everhart Museum staff and sun print making with photography instructor Ward Roe. For those interested in environmental concerns, there will be demonstrations by local organizations such as: PennFuture — offering a slide show on global warming and information on sustainable energy; Lackawanna River Corridor Association — demonstrating biological water quality testing, looking for macro invertebrates (water insects); Alliance Sanitary Landfill — providing information on landfill management and the Landscape Project; Wilkes University — showing the effects of pollutants in your drinking water with groundwater demonstrations; and Penn State Master Gardeners Cooperative Extension — demonstrating native gardening. In addition to the ongoing activities, time slotted events are scheduled as follows: naturalist-led interpretive walks in Nay Aug Park at 1:30 p.m., docent-led “Art of the Land” exhibit tours beginning at 2 p.m., and an environmental lecture by Historian Paul Rosier at 3 p.m. All Community Day activities are included in the cost of general admission to the Museum.
