Barns of the Water Gap
BUSHKILL Take an in-depth look at the historic barns of Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and its environs in a special program sponsored by the Friends of the DWGNRA Saturday, Aug. 8, at 7 p.m. at the Bushkill Visitors Center on Route 209. As you drive around the area, you frequently may have wondered: Is it a Dutch barn? A Pennsylvania bank barn? What was it used for? Historian Ken Sandri of Bushkill will highlight building techniques commonly found in regional barns and show participants how to “read” barns for clues to their age and function. Admission is free. Sandri is a cultural and historical resource specialist by career. He is a Board member of the Historical Barns and Farms Foundation of Pennsylvania. The program is part of the annual lecture series offered in the recreation area, and this year is being funded in part with a grant to the Friends from the National Park Foundation, the national charitable partner of America’s national parks. Information about the park and all of its programs can be found at www.nps.gov/dewa or by telephoning 570-426-2452. Information about the not-for-profit Friends organization is at www.friendsofdewa.org.
