Charles Wilkin mixed media assemblages

to be shown at Alliance Gallery NARROWSBURG, N.Y. Charles Wilkin’s mixed media and digital collage work will be featured in the exhibition titled “Days Are Numbered,” opening with a reception on Friday, June 3 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Alliance Gallery at the Delaware Arts Center in Narrowsburg. The exhibit will be on view through June 25. “Derived primarily from the study of headlines, sounds bites, and idle conversations, my assemblages attempt to transpose these disjointed remnants of media overload and targeted consumption into tangible yet uncertain analogies,” explains Wilkin of his graphic post-modern assemblages of found objects and disposable paper media including magazines, newspapers, and photographs. Born in Buffalo New York, Wilkin is the principal of Automatic Art and Design in New York City, which he founded in 1994 in Columbus, Ohio. Under his direction Automatic has won international recognition for its innovative commercial work with clients such as Burton Snowboards, Australian Vogue, Mattel, Target, Knopf, Pentagram, and Apple. His unconventional approach of merging graphic design with fine art led him to be nominated for a 2003 National Communication Design Award from the Copper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York City. He received his BFA in 1992 from the Columbus College of Art and Design. “My work is essentially a product of its environment,” says Wilkin, whose work has been exhibited in galleries from Australia to Tennessee, Brooklyn to California. “For me clarity and relief is found solely through the process itself. What remains is a new and deconstructed remnant of our existence, an undefined record to be reconsidered. The conclusion, if any, is left to the viewer’s discretion.” Free and open to the public, the exhibit is sponsored by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, the Arts Council for Sullivan County, N.Y., and is made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts. Alliance Gallery is located at the Delaware Arts Center at 37 Main Street, in Narrowsburg. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information about the exhibit call 845-252-7576 or visit www.ArtsAllianceSite.org.
