'Climate Collection' coming to Artists' Market
SHOHOLA — "Everybody complains about the weather, but artists are finally doing something about it," says the Barryville Area Arts Association.
In January, the association is sponsoring the "Climate Collection Event," an exhibit that combines a dozen winter weather creations by classic artists such as Claude Monet and Edvard Munch with the work of more than a dozen local artists.
Included is a print of “Hunters in the Snow” by Pieter Bruegel the Elder, painted 1565. Bruegel’s scene looks like fun for the skaters and hockey players but not for the hunters. Even their dogs look exhausted, and two out of the three hunters are coming home empty-handed. This particular painting is important because it foreshadowed the move in Renaissance art from symbolic representation to more detailed drawings.
The artists say drawing winter scenes is more difficult than drawing scenes of summer.
The exhibit will be up all through January at the Artists’ Market Community Center, 114 Richardson Ave., Shohola, with a reception planned for 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7.
Take shelter from the cold, and enjoy the hot cocoa, coffee, and other complimentary refreshments at the free reception.
