— The Delaware Valley Choral Society will perform Handel's Messiah at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, in the Delaware Valley High School Auditorium.
Probably the most well-known work of George Frederic Handel, the Messiah was composed as an oratorio for soloists, choir and orchestra. The chorus will perform the Messiah in its entirety, using the same musical forces Handel scored for the first performance he conducted in the spring 1742.
Guest artists include Eileen MacIntosh (soprano), Pattricia Ruggles (alto), Erik Sparks (tenor), James Rensink (bass), and Thomas Dresser (harpsichord). Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and may be purchased in advance by calling Diane Fornoff at 570-296-5333, or Jeffrey Fornoff at 570-267-8773. Tickets will also be available at the door.
The Delaware Valley Choral Society is a non-profit group dedicated to performing major choral works in their original form. The society incorporates aspiring musicians from the area with professional musicians to bring major works of music to the community.
