Delaware Valley Opera calls for auditions

    NARROWSBURG, N.Y. — Delaware Valley Opera (DVO) is holding auditions for their 2010 summer season which includes two fully staged operas with orchestra: Lee Hoiby’s “A Month in the Country” and W.A. Mozart’s “Cosi fan tutte.” Auditions will be held by appointment on Saturdays, Feb. 13 and Feb. 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Krause Recital Hall, Delaware Arts Center, 37 Main Street, in Narrowsburg. Mark Shulgasser will direct “A Month in the Country” and Sam Helfrich will direct “Cosi fan tutte.” Kenneth Hamrick will conduct both operas. DVO seeks a first cast and understudies in the following vocal categories: soprano, high lyric soprano, coloratura soprano, mezzo soprano, comic high baritone/low tenor, lyric tenor, baritone and bass-baritone. Singers receive coaching with music director Kenneth Hamrick and composer Lee Hoiby. Understudies will appear in one performance. Rehearsal period begins July 1, 2010. Performances will be held from July 23 - Aug. 15 at the Tusten Theatre, Narrowsburg, and Seelig Theatre at Sullivan County Community College in Loch Sheldrake, N.Y. Those auditioning should prepare two songs/arias in contrasting style (one must be in English); a short monologue (spoken) in English; and a short monologue (spoken) in Italian.
