Fans anticipate a PEEC performance at Kindred Spirits program DINGMANS FERRY Duo Del Norte will perform at the Pocono Environmental Education Center’s Earth Day festivities, on Apr. 19. Not only does Duo Del Norte offer a mix of musical styles unlike any other, but this duo has chosen pieces for this special day that celebrate nature. Duo Del Norte’s two principals, international flute player Sharon Levin and virtuoso guitarist Gene Pino, will play music that ranges from the classics--”The Four Seasons,” by Vivaldi, “To a Wild Rose,” by Edward MacDowell--to jazz-flavored arrangements of “Mother Nature’s Son,” by Lennon and McCartney, and “Moon River,” by Johnny Mercer. Other tunes include Israeli star Naomi Shemer’s “Eucalyptus Grove,” and a number of Latin pieces, including “Mi Ultimo Beso,” (My Final Kiss). Clearly, nature looms large in this concert. There is no additional charge for the concert, staged at PEEC’s light-filled pavilion. This Earth Day performance begins at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, at the Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC). About the Artists Sharon Levin has performed throughout Latin America, Europe, Israel, and the United States. The award-winning flutist has played Carnegie Hall several times as a soloist and as a member of chamber groups, and she has appeared on television in a number of Latin American countries. Along the way, Levin has picked up rave reviews, such as this one from The Wall Street Journal: “She has something many leading solo flutists lack: an understanding of the architectural underpinnings of a piece and an ability to find its emotional hot spots.” Trio Pasional, a Latin group featuring Levin and two guitar players, has recorded Mi Ultimo Beso, which is on this program. She hopes her performances with Latin tunes will foster “a partnership of music and environmental awareness regarding the preservation of the rain forest of South America.” Guitar virtuoso Gene Pino and Levin have performed together as Duo Del Norte since 2005. Pino, a veteran of the Manhattan School of Music, has classical training but is also a popular jazz musician. He has worked with New York City’s best swing bands, including Vince Giordano’s Night Hawks, as well as Anita O’Day and other jazz legends, and he applies both classical and jazz techniques to tunes by the likes of Ellington, Gershwin, and Rodgers,
