Getting her start as a freelance writer for Details magazine, Martha Frankel has had a whirl wind of a literary career with many great stories in reputable publications - The New Yorker, Fashions of the New York Times, Redbook, Cosmopolitan, and Movieline’s Hollywood Life - behind her. From interviews with Elizabeth Taylor and Anthony Hopkins in Berlin to Mariah Carey and Susan Sarandon in Rome, her craft has taken her all over the world to experience all that life has to offer. The book, a cleaver look into Frankel’s life, follows her passion for gambling that quickly turns to addiction, leading her to understand the famous phrase from one of her “uncles” — “hats and eyeglass,” which is a phrase used to describe those times when you’re losing so bad you feel like you’re on a sinking ship, and all that floats to the surface are hats and eyeglasses. With a career spanning over two decades, the new author on the block is making quite a splash with her recent release. Frankel was named an “Original Voice” by Borders Books, giving her book, Hats and Eyeglasses, placement in the front of their stores. Gaining much deserved press, according the New York Times, “…the most interesting story of her journalistic career is the one she has written about herself.” Join Martha Frankel at the Hotel Fauchere on Thursday, Apr. 3 at 6 p.m. to recount her love affair with gambling and try your poker face against an original shark.
