Fall fun at Harvest Festival

Delaware Township's Recreation Board planned and held a Harvest Festival at Camp Akenac in Dingmans Ferry. There were 68 local vendors, a round up of 4-H clubs, a hayride to the pumpkin patch where children 12 and under picked a free pumpkin, a magician which included a juggling and fire-eating show, face painting, and plenty of food.

4-H clubs — Archery "Bows of Fire," Knitting, Model Horse, Palette of Fun Art, Rock Ridge Ranchers, and Rough Riders — were all there to display the hard work and efforts of the 4-H leaders and members.

"The goal of 4-H clubs is to grow and to offer an opportunity for more kids and adults to participate in 4-H," Deb Brodhecker, 4-H educator said. "We are always looking for volunteers and people who can share their skills. We have over 150 projects and almost any idea can be a club. We've had a lot of support from Dingmans for using Camp Akenac, and we appreciate the community support."

Pike County United Women were also present. Member Gwen McNamara told the courier that PCUW's mission is "to strengthen and empower the women of Pike County, to support the needs of the community through service, educational, and social endeavors for women in Pike County. It is exciting that we have lasted a year and a half now. We are always excited to have new people."

Pike County United Women will host a free Child Abuse & Safety Symposium on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Dingman Delaware Middle School Auditorium, 1365 Route 739, Dingmans Ferry, for ages 13 and over.

K&S Landscaping owner, Scott Dippel donated the tractor and his help for the free hayride and Holy Trinity Church donated the hay wagon. Aardvark Entertainment presented the magic of Mark Clark. The folks from the Dingmans Ferry Bridge gave out free donuts. Local vendor of Scentsy, Yolanda Hernandez handed out free samples of BananaBerry fragrance. De Filippis Bakery of Middletown, N.Y. sold baked goods, and the Lions Club was there to grill and sell food.
