Family Fun Day features Pocono Avian Research Center
BUSHKILL Darryl Speicher of the Pocono Avian Research Center will present the Fall Family Fun Day program at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15. This program concludes the Lecture Series arranged by the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area interpretive staff and sponsored by the Friends, a non-profit park conservancy. It will be held at the Bushkill Visitor Center on US Route 209, located just south of the blinking light at Bushkill Falls Road. Children and adults alike will enjoy Speicher’s entertaining and family-friendly presentation on how birds get ready for winter. Attendees will learn bird feeding basics and tips to make your backyard a haven for winter birds. After the presentation, join park rangers and volunteers for crafts and activities. Those who pre-register will be able to make a small bird feeder to take home. Pre-registration is required in order to have enough craft materials. Call the voice mailbox, 570-426-2490, leaving your name and the number of children and adults in your group. In addition to funding the Lecture Series each year, the Friends for the second summer supported the opening of the Bushkill Visitor Center. Donors to the Friends for for this year’s Visitor Center project are: the Fernwood Resort, Lehman Township and the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau. Nearly 4,500 visitors were served on summer weekends with staffing provided by the Park Service, the Pocono Mountains Visitor Bureau and members of the Friends. The Friends of the Delaware Water Gap NRA is dedicated to supporting historic, scientific, educational, recreational, and natural resource management activities in the park and to raising funds for special park projects.
