Farm-to-table harvest promises tasty treats
STROUDSBURG — Quiet Valley Historical Farm is set to host its 5th annual harvest dinner fundraiser tasting experience from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2. At this special fundraiser there will be four food tastings at various areas of the farm. Savor samples of this year’s featured fare while learning a little of the history behind these particular foods.
At the workshop building, Dairy will be the featured food with items made using butter, cheese and cream. Guests can partake of a fresh cream of cauliflower soup, and explore other dairy treats. Peppers, sweet through spicy, take center stage in the one room rchool where we will discover more about the varieties of the past as well as current selections. Nibble on cabbage family treats by the garden as you explore this staple in the diet of the early farm families. While there, information on the Fall garden will be shared. At the Bake Oven enjoy the tastes of apples with a sweet recipe as you learn more about this harvest staple. A harvest activity will precede or end your visit to the Farm to Table Experience as well as some fun time with the animals on hand.
From 4:00 to 6:30pm small groups will go out every 20 minutes with the last one going at 6:30pm. The Farm to Table Experience takes place rain or shine. "This is an excellent way to connect with local food sources and try out some new recipes without having to do the cooking," according to organizers. The food tasting takes about an hour and a half with prices set at $20.00 per adult, $10.00 for children 3 -10. Call the farm at 570-992-6161 to reserve your tickets. Space is limited.
All funds raised go to support Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm, a non-profit, educational corporation. Quiet Valley is dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of rural life of the 18th and 19th centuries. The historic farm museum is open to the general public from the third Saturday in June through Labor Day Monday, closed Mondays except Labor Day. Also, open select Spring and Fall Saturdays; Major fundraising events are held in May, October and December. Tours for schools and groups are by reservation.
