'Flamenco, Old and New' at the Milford Theatre
MILFORD — Get swept away by fiery Spanish music, dance, and song.
The Juanito Pascual New Flamenco Trio will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, at the Milford Theatre, 114 E. Catharine St., Milford. Singer/dancer Barbara Martinez is special guest.
Featuring Pascual on guitar, bassist Brad Barrett, and Grammy-nominated percussionist Tupac Mantila, the trio colors flamenco with elements of jazz, world music, and even rock. True to the trio's ability to incorporate other musical traditions, Pascual has not only starred in performances with many of flamenco's luminaries, but also with soprano Dawn Upshaw, Latin jazz pianist Michel Camilo, and Israeli cantor Emil Zrihan. NPR has called him "one of the hottest flamenco guitarists in recent years."
Tickets are $20 at the door, $15 in advance at kindredspiritsarts.org or at Books and Prints, 220 Broad St., Milford. Students and children under 15 will be admitted free.
The show is sponsored by Kindred Spirits Arts Programs, a nonprofit organization of volunteers dedicated to bringing quality performances to Pike County and the area.
