Flamenco trio will bring Latin flair with a music and dance performance
MILFORD — The New York-based flamenco trio Segue will present "Ritmo, Color, y Pasion" on Saturday, July 27, at the Milford Theatre at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, July 28, at the Hawley Silk Mill at 2 p.m.
Segue, which gave a special performance at the Pocono Environmental Education Center in 2011, offers flamenco music with a twist. In addition to having a guitarist (Jared Newman) and dancer (Eva Conti Algeria), this trio features a violinist, Sarah E. Geller.
"Segue is deeply rooted in Spain's time-honored flamenco dance: the romantic Solea, the deep and expressive Seguiriyas, and Paco de Lucia's virtuosic La Barrosa, as well as soulful songs and dance of Falla and Albeniz," says Geller. "Having a violin playing the role of the singer is atypical of flamenco," she admits, "but aside from that, we don't mix flamenco with pop or jazz. We honor traditional forms."
The Musicians
Geller is a classical violinist by training. She has earned raves for performances of music by Brahms, Fauré, and Mendelssohn.
Classical and flamenco guitarist Jared Newman has performed with Flamenco Latino and Andrea del Conte Danza España at Lincoln Center Out of Doors, the Atlantic Theatre, and Thalia Spanish Theatre, and for The Phantom Lady by Calderón de la Barca at the Soho Repertory Theatre in NYC. Flamenco dancer Eva Conti Alegria, a featured dancer and musical arranger with the Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre, brings a lifetime of music performance to her dance. She studied with José Molina, La Meira, Elena Andujar, Immaculada Ortega and other flamenco legends.
