Herbal Heritage' at Fort Delaware
Narrowsburg, N.Y. A weekend of herb walks and presentations on the rich history of herbal medicine and its current significance will take place from July 31 to Aug. 3, at Fort Delaware in Narrowsburg. All walks and classes below, unless otherwise noted, are with Nathaniel Whitmore. Friday’s schedule includes: 10 a.m., Herb Walk, 11 a.m., Colonial Medicine, 1 p.m., Native American Herbal Medicine, 2 p.m., Herb Walk, 3 p.m., Diaphoretics - Herbs Used For Fevers and Flu, and 4 p.m., The Settler’s Garden. On Saturday: 10 a.m., Herb Walk; 11 a.m., Sauer and Coxe - A Discussion of Two Major Medical/Herbal Text with Richard Mandelbaum; 1 p.m., Hahnemann - The Founder of Homeopath, with Ellis Peterson; 2 p.m., Herb Walk; Richard Mandelbaum, 3 p.m., Astringents and Styptics for Treating Wounds; and at 4 p.m., Herbs for Bites and Stings. Sunday’s schedule is: 12 p.m., Herb Walk, 1 p.m., Samuel Thomson, 2 p.m., Naturalized Herb., with Kieran Pierce, 3 p.m., Native American Herbal Medicine, and at 4 p.m., Herb Walk. The Monday schedule is: 10 a.m., Herb Walk, 11 a.m., 18th Century Medical Schools, Theory, & Practice, 1 p.m., Ginseng and the Early American Herb Trade, 2 p.m., The Settler’s Garden, 3 p.m., Our Native Medicinal Forest, and at 4 p.m., Herb Walk.
