Inspired by Nature'

Free concert at Grey Towers coming in June MILFORD A free performance by the Black Bear Conservatory of Music that features the works of the classical masters inspired by nature is planned for Saturday, June 5, at 5:30 p.m., at Grey Towers National Historic Site, 122 Old Owego Turnpike, in Milford. Co-sponsored by the Grey Towers Heritage Association and the US Forest Service, the program is part of the season’s Conservation and the Arts program and will be held outdoors under a tent. Folding chairs are provided. Please dress for the weather. “We are thrilled to be offering this free musical performance for the community,” said Barbara Buchanan, president of the GTHA. “Part of our mission is to strengthen the connection between this wonderful site and the community and to help spread the story of the accomplishments of the Pinchot family. What better way to do that than to offer this inspirational musical program at this beautiful venue.” The Black Bear Conservatory of Music, based in Hawley, is a non-profit educational institution dedicated to “Excellence in Music Education.” The June 5 performance will feature a string quartet with pieces by Mozart and Haydn. The artists are members of the faculty or students at the Black Bear Conservatory of Music. Robert Murphy, violin, will lead the Renegade String Quartet. Grey Towers, ancestral home of the Pinchot family, has a long-standing tradition of combining nature and the arts. The US Forest Service partners with many organizations to continue that legacy today through its Conservation and the Arts programs, where the arts are used to inspire audience members to consider their natural surroundings and to ponder environmental concerns. Grey Towers, home of the Pinchot family, itself inspired first James Pinchot and then his son Gifford to become the eminent conservationists of their time. The GTHA and the US Forest Service strive to continue this legacy with the Conservation and the Arts program, which includes music, literary programs, dramatic readings, landscape painting and other artistic ventures.
