Kindred Spirits brings a year of music

MILFORD - Once again this year, the Kindred Spirits Arts Program brings music to Pike County. The first concert features The Oxbow String Quartet, with flutist, Allison Kiger. Student concerts will be held on Friday Jan. 19, at 10:30 a.m., at the Delaware Valley High School, followed by a master class at noon. A second concert will take place at the Dingman-Delaware Middle School at 2 p.m. On Saturday January 20 at 4:30 p.m., the quartet will perform in concert for the general public at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 321 Fifth Street in Milford. All four members of the Oxbow String Quartet currently attend the Eastman School of Music. Violinist Eugene Feygelson is a resident of Milford. Vivek Jayaraman comes from Lansing, Mich., violist Jonathan Larson and cellist Andrew Larson are natives of Minot, N.D. All four musicians share an affinity for the American landscape and the name “oxbow” is representative of that heritage. Playing with the Oxbow Quartet is flutist Allison Kiger. She has given performances throughout the United States, Canada, England and Poland, and has been heard on BBC-Radio, CBC-Radio Canada and WNYC-FM in New York. The upcoming Kindred Spirit 2007 season also includes Oxbow Quartet with harpist, Katie Andrews, on Sunday March 18 at 4 p.m. at Pocono Environmental Education Center, where the concert will include Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, and Hovhaness. The Monclair String Quartet performs on Saturday June 9 at the Grey Towers Amphitheater. Nestor Torres & Friends perform on Saturday July 14 at St. Patrick’s Hall, Milford, playing music from Vivaldi to Miles Davis. On Aug. 11, Ensemble Breve performs at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, playing baroque music for flute, viola da gamba and harpsichord. Stewart Goodyear, pianist on Saturday is in concert on Sept. 22 at St. Patrick’s Hall; and again at a holiday vocal concert on Dec. 16 at St. Patrick’s hall. Founded in 2002, the Kindred Spirits Arts Programs seeks to awaken appreciation of the beauty and value of Nature by presenting established and emerging artists in musical and other artistic events, in a variety of settings, including collaborative ventures with schools and arts organizations. Special emphasis is placed on bringing musical performances to children in the schools.
