Larry Chance and The Earls coming to Dingman-Delaware

Dingman n Larry Chance and the Earls will have listeners “Remember Then” when they appear at the Dingman Delaware Middle School Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Aug. 18. Spanning from the late 1950’s into the new millennium, the Earls have been pleasing audiences with their flawless harmonies, vitality, and endearing dedication to their fans. Larry Chance & the Earls represent the music that helped define Rock N’ Roll, the original doo-wop era that put the street corner society onto the national charts. Born in South Philadelphia, Larry Chance grew up in a neighborhood noted for its show business roots, spawning such talents as Fabian, Frankie Avalon, Chubby Checker, Mario Lanza, the Treniers, Danny & the Juniors, Lee Andrews & the Hearts, Joey Bishop, David Brenner, and many more. It was here Chance began his love affair with show business. It was 1955 when his family moved to the Bronx. There Larry discovered that vocal groups were to be found on almost every street corner, so he developed one of his own in 1957, with five friends, and called his group, the High-Hatters. By 1960, the group had evolved into the Earls. Through the years, the original members moved on to other things. Drummer and 2nd tenor Bobby Tribuzio has been with Larry since 1963. Joining the Earls more recently, the current lineup includes George Tuzzeo, on keyboard; Bobby Coleman, bass player and vocals; and Chuck Mearizo, guitar and vocals. Chance and company have placed many songs on the charts, including: “Life Is But a Dream,” “Never,” “I Believe,” and of course the classic, “Remember Then.” They still enjoy performing them, and always include the audience as a part of the show. The performance benefits St. Vincent de Paul Church. Tickets are $25. Call 570-775-6620.
