“The Big Reveal” on May 10 at the Marie Zimmerman house was a celebration of her late wrought iron works.

The event was organized by Max Brinson, President of the “Friends of Marie Zimmerman,” a not-for-profit organization that works with the National Parks Service to maintain and promote her farm and house and celebrate her art.

The event featured a buffet featuring many of the foods that Zimmerman would have liked. She was an outdoorswoman and fished and hunted.

The dinner included a roast pig on a platter (catered by Prime Time Meats in Milford), smoked trout (from Samaki in Port Jervis), and included stuffed mushrooms, vegetables, and several fruit platters (catered by Nikki C in Eldred). There were also elk, wild boar and duck sausage. The menu was created by Johanna LjungQvist Brinson who, with Max, orchestrated the many details of the event.

The new wrought iron pieces were all labeled neatly with cards describing each piece. They included the two beds, two large candelabras, and a copper still among other items.

About 60 people attended. They said they could almost feel the spirit of Marie Zimmerman herself. Many of the attendees had been at the mansion before and some, while having lived in Milford for many years, had never attended one of these events. Karen Gropman remarked, “We have lived here for 40 years and have never been inside. Zimmerman’s work is so beautiful. I’m glad we came.”

Her husband, David Gropman said, “It’s one of the wonders of the area.”

Darrell Burger had visited the house many times and said, “It’s the best meeting place in Pike County. The grounds are beautiful, and the house has really been redone in a great way. It would fit for any things. As a retired minister, who has performed about 1,000 weddings, I can see it as a venue for weddings.”

People seemed to really enjoy the day as they strolled through the spacious well-lit rooms and wandered out to the back yard and front of the house. It was a beautiful day, and it is clear to say the afternoon was a complete success. As one guest said, “Max and Johanna did it again.”
