Hawley - Learn about the tracks, diets, habitats and adaptations of Pennsylvania’s mammals at a program sponsored by the Wallenpaupack Environmental Learning Center from 1:30-3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18. Professional naturalist John Serrao, whose latest book is titled “The Mammals of Northeast Pennsylvania,” will lead the program. Enjoy his beautiful pictures while learning about 56 species of mammals native to this area. Registration is required. For more information, registration and directions, contact PPL at 570-251-6196 or pplpreserves@pplweb.com. The Wallenpaupack Environmental Learning Center is part of PPL’s Wallenpaupack hydroelectric project, built in 1926 near Hawley. The hydroelectric plant provides renewable energy in times of high electricity demand. The learning center offers programs and workshops to teachers, students and the public on the environment, conservation and the lake. The dam supports flood control and drought relief in the Lackawaxen and upper Delaware River watersheds. And the lake, 13 miles long and about 60 feet at its maximum depth, supplies year-round economic benefits to the community from the recreational opportunities it provides. PPL is hosting this program as part of PPL Project Earth, an initiative through which the company educates the public about energy resources and the environment.
