Library sponsors old-fashioned picnic

MILFORD Grab the kids and some spare change, and head on over to the Pike County Public Library’s old-fashioned picnic on Saturday, Sept. 6. For only $2 a ticket, you’ll get a hot dog, ice cream and a cold drink, along with a hearty serving of family fun. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., this end of summer shindig on the building site of the new Dorothy Warner Main Branch on East Harford St., Milford, will offer free face painting for the kids and much, much more. In keeping with the Pike County Public Library’s (PCPL) focus on conservation issues, the picnic will include a special demonstration of birds of prey (hawks, eagles, owls, falcons, and vultures) from the Delaware Valley Raptor Center, which will provide youngsters with the opportunity to see the raptors up-close and learn more about their habits and habitat. The Raptor Center is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the rehabilitation and conservation of these magnificent creatures. The festivities will also include a children’s book sale, conducted by the Friends of the Pike County Public Library (with proceeds going to support Library programming) and other entertaining and family-friendly offerings. “Come for some fun,” said Maleyne Syracuse, PCPL Board President. “It’s an opportunity to meet library board members and learn firsthand about the new programs and services planned for all of Pike County.” Library board members will be on hand to talk about how an improved Public Library System could do more to help Pike County advance its economic well-being, enhance educational opportunities, offer cultural benefits to our community, and serve as a resource for anyone interested in preserving our environment. Picnic sponsors include Altec Lansing, the L.R. Costanzo Company, and the Pike County Library.
