Making stone' plant containers: a hypertufa how-to workshop
LACKAWAXEN Would you like to learn how to make your own eye-catching “stone” planting containers? Pike County Public Library is offering a new workshop on making these attractive containers at the Lackawaxen Branch on Sunday, September 20th at 1 p.m. The “stone” is a mixture of Portland cement, peat moss, and pearlite which is molded into a planter shape of the maker’s choosing. It can be formed in a mold or in a free form shape. The simulated stone is called hypertufa and can be found for sale at upscale nurseries. Hypertufa looks like lava rock but is much lighter. It can be left outdoors during the winter. This will be a “make and take” program each participant will take a completed container away. Materials will be provided and a selection of forms will be available. Participants need only bring a pair of latex or rubber gloves. The number of participants will be limited to eight so that everyone attending will have individual help available if needed. Advance registration is necessary. The phone number at the Lackawaxen Branch, located in Greeley is 570-685-3100. Call early to assure a spot is available, or if you need additional information. More details are also available by calling Carole at 570-685-4108. This is an activity you will really enjoy.
