For Halloween stories and handcrafted cuisine HAWLEY — Master Pumpkin Carvers David Dunsmore and Grant Genzlinger will once again create their artful and whimsical patch of intricately hand-carved pumpkins that become the backdrop to Halloween weekend at The Settlers Inn and the inn’s annual storytelling dinner on Saturday, Oct. 31, beginning at 6:30 p.m. This year’s stories will be “told” by The Uphill String Band who will entertain Settlers Inn guests with their musical ballads during a feast of handcrafted seasonal dishes like cauliflower and parsnip soup with dried currants or pine nuts; Mountain Dell Farm lettuce, apple and cashew salad with shallot buttermilk dressing; Campenelli Farm lemon thyme roast Cornish game hen with smoked gouda au gratin potato and broccolini; or hazelnut crusted salmon, plum and golden raisin chutney with creamy orzo and green beans; all capped with desserts like devil’s food cake, pear sorbet, butterscotch pudding or apple strudel and cinnamon ice cream. Gathering time for The Inn’s Storytelling Dinner is 6:30 p.m.; dinner begins at 7 p.m. The cost is $55, plus tax and gratuities. For more information visit www.TheSettlersInn.com or call 570-226-2993.
