Milford — Martha Lorin is Milford’s own Jazz Singer. Her first professional appearance was at the Hungry Eye in San Francisco. “I’ve been singing Jazz professionally since I was 19-years-old,” she said. American jazz pianist Tommy Flanagan, who accompanied Ella Fitzgerald, once commented that, “... Lorin is a wonderful singer who has timeless quality and yet a fresh voice on the jazz scene.” Lorin received the Milford Music Maker Award on the opening night of the 2009 Milford Music Festival. She is responsible, along with Amy Litzenberger and John Brodersen, for bringing the original Jazz Festival — which was held at the Best Western Inn in Matamoras in 2002 — to Milford. Lorin wanted the festival to be a variety of music types. It was renamed the Milford Music Festival and the Ann Street Park became the new location for the event. Lorin has served as the director of the Milford Music Festval and has assisted with concept development too. At Lorin’s last performance at the Cliff Park Inn’s Cricket Room, the room was filled with friends and guests who were treated to Lorin’s renditions of past and current Jazz hits. She composes lyrics and music to her own originals which she also performed during the evening. With her raspy voice and sultry style Lorin kept the audience entertained for over two hours. She was accompanied by Vic Juris on guitar, Dan Miller on Bass and Adam Nussbaum on drums. “These guys are all world class players,” said Lorin. Lorin’s first solo album, “The Best Is Yet To Come,” began the start of an international tour for her. She toured Japan and the Philippines. After the tour she spent a year performing in Los Angeles. Lorin lived and worked in New York City for some years. She appeared at many New York City venues, including Weil Hall at Carnegie Hall, where she performed her own Christmas program in 2007. Lorin has five CD’s out and is expecting to have her sixth, “Don’t Slam That Door,” released in September. To find out more about Lorin go to www.marthalorin.com .
