SUGARLOAF, N.Y. — The Spring 2009 Sugarloaf Music Series commences with a repeat performance by the mighty guitar triumverant: Virtuoso Frank Vignola (of Warwick, N.Y. and presently touring with David Grisman), jazz giant Bucky Pizzarelli, and one of the most recorded guitarists in modern jazz, Gene Bertoncini. It has been said that the famed Italian violinist once proclaimed that he had given up playing the guitar for the violin because the guitar was too difficult. These three ‘pisanos’ make it look easy on Saturday evening, March 14th at the Lycian in Sugar Loaf, N.Y. Their performance two years ago was completely sold out. The concert certain to attract a greatly appreciative regional audience will feature the return of the very popular Jeff Ciampa-Mark Egan Group. Both of these gifted artists also reside in Warwick. Egan was for many years a member of Pat Metheny’s seminal band. Ciampa has worked with music icons Harry Belafonte and Dave Matthews - an event not to be missed, on Saturday, May 9. Sugarloaf Music’s third component includes the iconoclastic drummer’s drummer from nearby Highland Falls, N.Y. Adam Nussbaum fronts an all-star trio that is always riveting. This internationally famed artist who is one of the most recorded in modern jazz, appears in Sugarloaf on Saturday, June 6. “Adam Nussbaum is in such demand as a sideman, especially with tenor sax giant James Moody,” says Sugarloaf Music Director Russ Layne “ that to get him to perform close to home was no small chore. He is so busy that it took a lot of effort to arrange ... and it certainly will be worth it. Adam dances around the drum set with such aplomb and energy ... his artistry can simply be cathartic.” The Sugarloaf Music Series is underwritten by a grant from Target®. Since opening its doors, Target has given 5 percent of its income to organizations that support education, the arts, social services and volunteerism. Today that translates to more than $3 million every week. Further information and reservations, visit the Web site: www.sugarloafmusic.org. Reservations can be made by phone at 845-258-5299.
