New theater company arrives locally
PORT JERVIS, N.Y. A brand-new theater company, Try-City Stage, proudly presents its premier production of that terrific little musical with the terrible name: “Urinetown the Musical.” The Erie Trackside Manor of Port Jervis will host the performances from Thursday, Sept 25 through Sunday Sept. 28. Don’t let the title scare you off - Urinetown is the wackiest musical satire you’ll ever see. If you love musical theater and have an off-beat sense of humor, this show will make you laugh until you cry. The premise is unusual - in a city suffering from a terrible water shortage, private bathrooms are outlawed. Everyone must pay crippling fees to use public latrines run by a greedy corporation. Hidden underneath all the laughs, is a more serious message - namely, that our self-indulgent way of life may be ultimately insupportable. Directed by Bill Thomas, Urinetown features a talented cast of 26 performers, including local favorites Steve Davis, Tim Webster, Kim Golden, Paula Flickenschild, Dionna Eshleman, Bill Thomas, and Sandy Stalter. The show, which won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 2002, will be choreographed by Melissa Thomas. Ticket prices for Friday and Saturday nights’ performances will include a buffet dinner; Thursday and Sunday performances do not include dinner. Show times and ticket information can be found at: www.Try-CityStage.org. Reservations are strongly suggested, and can be made by phone at 845 858-7925; or email at Try-CityStage@hotmail.com.
