Party benefits enhancement committee efforts
Milford - In less than a decade, the Milford Enhancement Committee’s work has provided many visual improvements in Milford’s commercial district. Their work has encompassed new streetscapes bluestone sidewalks, new curbings, pedestrian lights landscaping and leadership on a wide range of community endeavors. A portion of that work is funded by local fundraising and the annual “Welcome Party” has become one the best atttended of these. The third annual Milford Enhancement Committee (MEC) “Welcome Party” benefit is slated for Saturday, June 24 from 3 to 7 p.m. The committee’s annual Welcome Party is an elegant and popular event aimed at welcoming new residents to the community in addition to welcoming back returning seasonal residents. Arnold Green and Fabio Disla will be hosting this year’s Welcome Party in their garden at 300 Water Street in Milford. Yvette Davidson, Debra Stevens, Green and Disla are co-chairing the event. “Last year, when I attended the Second Annual Welcome Party, held at the Silverstone home at Twin Lakes, it was a great time and I knew I wanted to get involved with the Enhancement Committee. It is a great way to help the community while meeting interesting new people and having fun,” said Stevens. “The Welcome Party is a great way for the community to help new neighbors get acquainted and get involved,” said Dick Snyder, Chairman of the Milford Enhancement Committee. “We are particularly grateful to Debra, Yvette, Arnold, and Fabio all of whom have worked so hard to make this year’s event a success.” Major sponsors of the event this year include Davis R. Chant Realtors, Biondo Investment Advisors, Bon Secours Community Hospital, Century 21 Roy B. Hull, and Sam Kelley-Hemlock Sales Agency. “It is important to recognize our sponsors, because their support is so critical to the success of the Enhancement Committee,” noted Davidson. The Welcome Party will feature live entertainment including “The Three Tremors” with Piano by Rubert Gajdos, “ Moon Knight”, and “Music by Munsee”, as well as Anthony Filone of Mt. Haven Resort, as DJ. Hors d’oeuvres served by The Waterwheel Café and desserts made by Fabio Disla will enhance the ambience as neighbors raise their glass to the start of summer. Reservations for the event are $50 per person and are available by calling Stevens at 570-296-5626. The Enhancement Committee’s objective is to make Milford a more enjoyable place to live, work and visit. The Enhancement Committee’s private/public partnership with the Milford Borough Council contributed to Milford receiving the 2005 Governor’s Award for Local Government Excellence. The total cost of improvements undertaken by the committee to date exceeds $2 million, raised from state and federal grants, private donors and events like the annual Welcome Party. MEC’s plans for 2006 include commencement of work on the East Harford Street gateway to Milford and extension of improvements along Broad Street from Plum Alley to George Street.
