On Saturday, Dec. 5, the Delaware Township Volunteer Fire Company will spread holiday cheer throughout the community, with the help of Santa himself.

From approximately 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Santa and his firefighting elves will tour the area accompanied by the company’s fleet of firetrucks. This year, Santa and the Firefighting Elves will be doing things a little differently. To keep everyone safe and healthy for the holidays, the firetrucks won’t be making any stops. This year will be a “Drive-By Holiday Safety Run.”

Santa will tour the major communities and neighborhoods within Delaware Township, spreading Christmas cheer.

“While we all know that the focus of the season is the joy and happiness of celebration with friends and family, the officers and members of our fire company feel it is also an important time to remind the public of the danger of fire and the added risk the season brings,” said Sean Hughes, chief of the Delaware Township Volunteer Fire Company. “For our firefighters it provides a happier reason to have the fleet on the road and a chance to see our neighbors and friends under different circumstances than those usually associated with the arrival of the firetrucks in your neighborhood.”

So, the chief says, if you hear the sirens that Saturday afternoon, don’t be alarmed — “This time they are being used to help spread holiday cheer.”
