Shane Cook fiddling in concert
HONESDALE The Old Time Fiddlers are celebrating their 30th year of promoting traditional music in Wayne and surrounding counties by sponsoring Shane Cook, and his accompanist Jake Charron, on Saturday, May 2. at 8:00 p.m. at the Honesdale High School Auditorium. Admission for adults is $15, children 12 and under are free. Besides the evening concert, Shane will also be giving a free afternoon workshop at the Wesleyan Room of the Central United Methodist Church at 2:00pm. Anyone interested in getting advice to advance their playing technique should attend this workshop. Please help support The Old Time Fiddler’s goal of keeping the tradition alive in this area by attending Shane’s concert. Such musicianship has not been heard on stage in this area before. At the age of 26, Canadian Shane Cook “rates at the top of the short list of the finest fiddlers in the world today,” says the Canadian Fiddlers’ Hall of Fame. Shane has distinguished himself as a master of the Canadian old-time fiddle tradition and excels at an array of fiddle styles ranging from Irish and Scottish to French-Canadian, Texan, and Bluegrass. In fact, after a recent concert at The Opera House the Boston Herald proclaimed “Shane Cook’s Celtic fiddling was enough to break hearts.” In 2006, Shane retired from competitive fiddling as one of Canada’s most highly awarded fiddlers. He is a three-time Canadian Open National Fiddle Champion, a three-time Canadian Grand Masters Fiddle Champion, a Grand North American Fiddle Champion, and is the only Canadian to have ever won the US Grand National Fiddle Championship, a feat he accomplished at just 17 years of age.
