The first performance will be held Grey Towers National Historic Site in Milford on Saturday, June 17, at 5:30 p.m. The second will be held at 4 p.m. the next day, Sunday, June 18, at the Hawley Silk Mill in Hawley.
The trio actually has four members in this performance: flutist Carla Auld, violinists Gabriel Schaff and Faina Agranov, and cellist Lanny Paykin.
Haydn's HeirsThe London Trio is an ensemble in the tradition of Franz Joseph Haydn's London trios. However, the ensemble plays both traditional classical and contemporary music, so in addition to music by Haydn, this concert will include some pieces that living artists composed specifically for this trio.
Auld's debut CD, "Beauty in America," included the premiere of a piece by country-classical violinist Mark O'Connor. She performs with numerous orchestras and chamber groups, and as a guest soloist throughout the United States. Auld is also an ambassador for high-end flute-maker Bernhard Hammig.
Schaff is a popular chamber music player, lecturer, and teacher. He is also the author of several books, including "Rediscovering Haydn's Three Original Violin Sonatas."
Paykin has performed in the New York City Ballet and Metropolitan Opera orchestras, and has toured Asia with the New York Philharmonic and performed with them at Avery Fisher Hall. He's also a member of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra in Australia and has performed at the Aspen, Dartmouth College, Bard College, Lake Tahoe, and Paros, Greece, festivals.
Agronov debuted with the Moldova Symphony at age 11. She performs at major venues in New York City, such as Alice Tully Hall and Carnegie Hall, and in Russia, including the Moscow State Conservatory. She is a member of the Glimmerglass Opera orchestra.
