Toast the beginning of Fall
Wine Festival kicks off 2010 season with delectable tasting event BETHEL, N.Y. The Harvest Festival at Bethel Woods begins its 12th season with the ever-popular wine festival on Sunday, Aug. 29, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Wine Festival features a sampling of thirteen regional wineries from New York’s Hudson Valley and the Finger Lakes region. Cheese, chocolate and wine will be available for tasting and for sale. There is a $5 tasting fee, which includes a complimentary souvenir glass (while supplies last). A new highlight of the wine festival this year is a fun, interactive tasting seminar illustrating the structure, aromas and flavors commonly found in wine and the basics of wine tasting, Discovering your Palate with Divine Events. The demonstration will help participants identify their likes and dislikes when it comes to wine, and how to communicate this interesting information to others, using “wine speak.” The rest of the harvest Of course, the Harvest Festival will also feature its usual array of vendors and activities for the whole family, including the bountiful farmers market, diverse craft village, delicious festival foods (including vegetarian, barbeque, kettle corn, and Italian ice stands), a children’s area with educational programming, corn & hay mazes, arts & crafts workshops, pony rides, and the annual Gathering of the Scarecrows. The corn and hay maze will be operated by the Bethel Lions Club and the Alzheimer’s Association who will benefit from this fundraising opportunity. Performances will include Darren and Albi of the band Somerville, as well as a performance by The Janice Center, plus a book signing by Carolyn Summers, author of Designing Gardens with Flora and the American East. Admission to the Harvest Festival is free each week, with a $2.00 parking fee. 2010 marks the twelfth anniversary of the Harvest Festival, an annual event celebrating the bounty, talent, and beauty of Sullivan County and surrounding areas. Over the years, the festival has grown from a small farmer’s market with a handful of vendors and a few guest musicians, to a full festival attracting over 50,000 guests annually and featuring close to 100 vendors each week.
