Tocks Island documentary to be screened
MONTAGUE, N.J. On Thursday, May 29, the Montague Association for Restoration of Community History will present “Ghost Waters” - a 35 minute preview of a documentary feature length film in the making. Filmmaker Nick Patrick relates how forty years ago, our most beautiful & historically rich valley in the northeast was threatened by submersion to make way for the federal Tocks Island dam project. The river valley residents stood up and fought to save their homes and the last free-flowing river on the east coast, the Delaware River. The Delaware Water Gap National Recreational Area became the bittersweet fruit of this battle. The dam opponents’ tremendous effort still stands as one of our Nation’s greatest environmental and civil action success stories, yet that story is rarely known. This film is an effort to tell the story. It will be shown at the Foster-Armstrong House at 320 River Rd./CR 521 in Montague. Doors will open at 7 p.m., with the film being shown at 7:30 p.m. and an opportunity for Q&A following. Due to limited seating, a second showing will be available if needed. The film is open to the public. No admission fee. For more info http://www.montaguehistory.org/ 973-293-3106.
