'Vagina Monologues' to benefit victims of domestic violence
NARROWSBURG, N.Y. — The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance and Janet Burgan will present a benefit reading of Eve Ensler’s award-winning play, “The Vagina Monologues,” at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 7 at the Krause Recital Hall, located in the Delaware Arts Center, 37 Main St. (second floor), Narrowsburg, N.Y.
The cast includes Janet Burgan, Beverly Dally, Tannis Kowalchuk, Cathleen Lathrop, and Kyoshin Lohr.
First performed off-Broadway by Ensler, "The Vagina Monologues" dives into the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage, and excitement buried in women’s experiences. Ensler has performed the play to great acclaim throughout the world. Villard Books/Random House first published “The Vagina Monologues,” which includes a foreword by Gloria Steinem, in 1998.
The performance will benefit VIP (Victims’ Intervention Program) in Honesdale, which provides confidential services to female, male and child victims/survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and other crimes. They can be reached at vipempowers.org or 1-800-698-4VIP.
The benefit performance is presented as part of V-Day’s campaign "One Billion Rising: Revolution," a global initiative that began three years ago as a call for women survivors of violence to demand an end to violence. In 2016, Risings will focus on highlighting, creating and envisioning new, brave and radical artistic initiatives to bring in the new revolutionary world of equality, dignity and freedom for all women and girls.
Admission is $10 for this event. Seating is limited and reservations are encouraged. Call 845-252-7576 or visit http://delawarevalleyartsalliance.org.
