Milford - For the seventh consecutive year, the Milford Business Council will present its annual Pear Blossom Festival, this year on Saturday and Sunday, April 22 and 23. As usual, Saturday morning includes a 5K walk beginning at 9 a.m. and a 5K run at 10 a.m. from Ann Street Memorial Park. The Tent Fair opens at 10 a.m. in the Park, and a Pear Cook-Off begins at 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church. In the afternoon, the Pear Blossom Parade steps off at 1 p.m. from Sarah Street and Broad. On Sunday, the Tent Fair continues from noon to 4pm. The tradition of the Pear Blossom Festival started in 1999 when the Milford Business Council planned out its first event, celebrating Spring, honoring the community’s non-profit organizations, and kicking off the tourist season, so important to the town’s economy, in a spirited way. There is particular pride this year, because the Borough’s ‘Street-Scape Project’ on Broad Street is nearly complete, with distinctive Colonial lampposts lining new sidewalks on both sides, and with many new trees planted, many of them ‘pears’. Anyone interested in getting involved in the Pear Blossom Festival, either as a vendor or volunteer, should contact LeeAnn Camarero at the Chamber Office at 570-296-8700, Diane Vitiello (Tent Fair) at 570-409-900, or Bill Kiger (5k & Parade) at 570-296-6753. The Milford Business Council is a committee of the Pike County Chamber of Commerce, which meets monthly at the Dimmick Inn & Steakhouse (8am every first Thursday) to discuss tourism and business owner interests.
