Walking tour traces Milford's roots

MILFORD — A free walking tour of Milford will illustrate the many contributions to the community made by the prominent Pinchot family since the 19th century.
The tour is planned for Saturday, Sept. 9, beginning at 10 a.m. Participants will meet at Broad and Harford Streets, rain or shine.
Guest lecturer Edgar Brannon will blend his 50-plus years knowledge of history, architecture, landscape design, and community background to show how one family influenced Milford's beginnings.
Participants will learn:
What was the Milford Community House before it became a library?
Where was the Gifford Pinchot Grange Hall?
Who built Forest Hall, and what was it used for?
The tour is offered by the Grey Towers Heritage Association and the U.S. Forest Service at Grey Towers, ancestral home of the Pinchot family. Participants will learn about some of the family's contributions, including Forest Hall, the Community House, Normandy Cottage, the Pike County Courthouse, and others.
Gifford Pinchot founded and served as first chief of the USDA Forest Service and twice served as Governor of Pennsylvania.
To register call 570-296-9625 or email info@greytowers.org. Participation will be limited to the first 25 registrants.
