MILFORD — Twenty-five years ago, parishioner Beth Hull (Jones) had a vision…to use the space and resources of the Good Shepherd Church to provide quality, affordable child care for the families of the tri-state area. It started in a small area of the facility, but demand quickly grew and the center expanded. It took over the Rector’s house, the backyard, the courtyard, and so on, allowing for the provision of more and more children. Over the course of 25 years there have been many different directors, staff, rectors, and board members, but one thing has remained constant…their commitment to the children and families of our community. In the recent past they have undergone major improvements and advances. The center participates in the Keystone STARS program and was recently rated a STAR 3 Facility. Through hard work and dedication the center succeeded to increase staff education levels and training hours, implement new curriculum aligning with the PA learning standards, and complete renovations that improved safety, aesthetics, and accessibility. Good Shepherd is the oldest licensed day care center in Pike County, and is now the 4th local center to achieve a STAR 3 rating. It has been an honor to serve the community for the past 25 years. Join them on Saturday Sept. 25, from noon to 3 p.m. in an anniversary open house celebration. There will be a cake presentation and refreshments, music, games and prizes, face painting, arts and crafts activities, as well as a safety presentation by Eastern Pike Regional Police Department, a story hour with Dora and Explorer Girl, facility tours and a meet and greet with director and staff.
