Couple renews vows after 60 years, at MSC

MILFORD — Joe Doro and his wife, Frances were married Apr. 10, 1928. Recently Joe and Frances renewed their vows with Father “Gus” Riccardi, pastor of St. Josephs church in Matamoras, at Milford Senior Care & Rehabilitation Center. The wedding and reception were given by the Director of Resident Services, Marla Hulse and volunteer, Barbara Bracken, Rosa Lopez, accounts assistant and other staff members volunteered their time off for this special man and his lovely bride. Vincent Lucas, an LPN at the center, was best man and matron of honor was resident, Marcia Vezos. The Doro’s children and many other family members attended. Joe served in WWII; took part in the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa and won a Purple Heart. Returning home, he married his sweetheart Frances and raised three children. Joe worked for the Transit Authority in New York City, with a side job working the field level, first base seats with Shea Stadium. Joe has met Donald Trump, Richard Nixon and Jackie Kennedy Onassis. Joe interviewed with Woody Allen and Martin Scorsese for parts in their movies and won bit parts in “Wise Guys,” “Fatal Attraction,” “Broadway Danny Rose,” and “Crocodile Dundee.” He also was in nationally televised TV commercials, including one for Ragu. Joe and Frances built a home in Dingmans Ferry in 1972. After suffering a heart attack last fall, Mr. Doro moved into Milford Senior Care & Rehabilitation Center and continues to entertain . Joe has had his own activity programs and entertains the other residents with his stories, jokes, and beautiful musical voice. Sinatra is his favorite.
