Special state Senate proclamation honors her accomplishments MILFORD — Florence Muhlhauser, onetime owner (with her husband Carl) and proprietress of the Laurel Villa Country Inn & Restaurant in Milford, turned 100 years old on Sept. 30. “She’s still healthy and in great spirits,” said her son Carl, the chef at the Laurel Villa, “and just as outspoken as ever. She always says exactly what she thinks!” He and his wife, Innkeeper Janice Halsted, took over the management of the Laurel Villa on his parents’ retirement. Chef Carl and his sisters, Marion Alden and Lois Castle, hosted a large celebration for family and friends on Sunday, Sept. 5 at the Laurel Villa. Attending were more than 50 people, including four generations of Florence Muhlhauser’s family and numerous longtime Milford friends. “Mom had a great time visiting with people that day,” said daughter Marion Alden. “There were a lot of friends she hadn’t seen for years, and they were able to reminisce about their many decades of shared memories.” In recognition of this rare milestone, state Senator Lisa Baker will present Mrs. Muhlhauser with a special Proclamation of the Pennsylvania State Senate, honoring her for the many accomplishments of her long life. “It is a happy privilege to be able to congratulate Florence on this remarkable birthday, and I wish her many more” said Baker. The family requests that cards and remembrances be mailed to The Laurel Villa, Second & East Ann streets, Milford, PA 18337.
