Albert H. Meyer
Albert Henry Meyer, a 15-year resident of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and former 30-year resident of Monroe, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at Shands at the University of Florida in Gainsville. Albert was 85.
The son of Henry and Louise Schneider Meyer, he was born on Mother’s Day - May 8, 1927 - in the Bronx.
Albert was a 25-year retiree and former shop steward of Western Electric Company.
He was also past commander and life member of American Legion Post 488, Monroe; past Chef De Gare of 40/8, proud veteran of the U.S. Navy of World War II and Korea.
He was a life member of New Outlook Pioneers, life member of Tin Can Sailors, member of the USS Meredith Association, Sampson WW II Navy Vets, life member of the DAV and U.S. Navy Memorial, life member of CWA Communication Workers of America, AFL/CIO and volunteer at the VA Clinic in Daytona Beach, Fla.
After retirement, Albert discovered cooking and became the chief chef of the Meyer family.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years. Alberta Battistella Meyer, at home; sons John of Edgewater, Fla., Stephen of Spring Valley and Raymond (Irene) of New Windsor; daughter Carol (Marty) Smith of Chatham, Va.; grandchildren: Patrick (Amanda) Meyer of Milford, Pa., Nicholas Meyer of Binghamton; Caitlin Meyer of Spring Valley, Andy Smith of Chatham, Va., and Cullen, Eric and Kieran Meyer of New Windsor; beloved uncle of Barbara (Ed) Capriotti, Richard (Susan) Meyer, Joanne (Greg) Sturm of Lanai City, Hawaii; many nephews, nieces and dear cousin Doris Cassidy of the Bronx.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27, with American Legion service at 6:30 p.m. at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Ave., Monroe.
Grave side funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 28, at Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen.
