Emmett 'Bud' C. Whitesell

    Emmett "Bud" C. Whitesell of Montague, N.J., died Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis. He was 88.

    Son of the late Emmett C. Whitesell Sr. and Daisy (nee Brown) Whitesell, he was born in the Layton section of Sandyston Township. He lived in Montague for more than 35 years and was a lifelong Sussex County resident.

    He was a self-employed vending machine mechanic. A Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, he was a member of the Milford American Legion Post 139 and a former member of Branchville American Legion Post 157. He was also a member of Branchville Hose Co. No. 1, serving as Chief in 1959.

    Survivors include his wife, Frances; daughter, Marilu Hansen; two brothers, Gene Whitesell and wife, Ruth Ann, of Frankford Township, and Arthur Whitesell of Greeley, Pa.

    He was predeceased by three brothers, John C. Whitesell Sr., Herbert W. Whitesell Sr., and James E. Whitesell; and one sister, Leona Ayers.

    A Mass of Christian Burial was held April 20 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Sandyston. N.J. Interment followed in Hainesville Cemetery. Visitation was held April 19 with an American Legion Service at the Wood Funeral Home in Branchville, N.J.
